CIRCUITS in a nutshell
Circuits! is led by Dr Helen Szoor-McElhinney and myself and aims to inspire the next generation of biomedical engineers. So much has happened since we started this Ingenious Public Engagement Award in 2017! To date, +9% of Scottish secondary schools signed up to receive and be trained to use the new Circuits tools that have already demonstrated impact on the curriculum. Circuits reached a wider audience by being part of activities presented in Africa by the female engineering community FEMEng and local outreach events (Institute of Physics science festival, Young Engineers Scotland Annual STEM Challenge 2018 and NCCPE ENGAGE conference)- reaching over 2000 people. A big thank you to the whole team :-) More details on this project and people involved here.

After one year of hard work, there we go! We organised a CPD event for 15 teachers at SSERC to present the research behind Circuits, listen from our team what they've learned from this co-production process and practical sessions to test the kits. Each teacher received 5 light and 5 sound kits to promote biomedical engineering in schools. Looking forward to their feedback !

Eloïse Guibourg and Siddharth Kankaria, MSc students in Science Communication and Public Engagement at the University of Edinburgh, worked with Circuits to develop a 3-minute challenge to be used by the Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland as part of their Celebration of STEM 2018 event. They did a great job combining our light and sound kits - many thanks to them !
